  • Valentine's Day Party Ideas You'll ♡

With little ones, isn't it easy to find a reason to have a party? Well, we're always ready for one and Valentine's Day is right around the corner! We've got some adorable "love" themed fine art products that fit in perfectly with the day, and you will simply ❤ our Valentine's Day party ideas!

    Start with some fun activities:

    • Cupcake decorating with strawberry cupcakes; pink, red, and white icing; heart shaped candies; and a rainbow of sprinkles.
    • Maybe a fun game of pin the heart on the birdie! Our Patterned Park Peel and Place fabric wall decals come with heart shaped decals that are the same shape as the birdies' wings. Display the wall decal set in the party room, let the pinner wear a blindfold, then spin and stick the heart as close to the birdie wing to fit. The closest wins! (Don't worry, our decals can stick to the walls and themselves and they keep on sticking!)
    • Make a heart shaped piñata! When each one takes a turn bashing the heart, accessorize the little piñata popping kiddos with a red satin blindfold and a stick strong enough to break the piñata. For the stick, get creative and decorate a tree branch or wooden dowel with crepe paper or washi tape.
    • Create stations where the kids can make their own Valentines! Provide hearts, doilies, glue, glitter, markers, paint, heart confetti, and googly eyes for tons of creative fun.
    • Have a heart themed scavenger hunt that leads to the piñata as the prize! When planning, start backwards (where you want the hunt to end) and work your way to the start, creating clues with fun, short rhymes.

Valentine's Day is all about sweets, so check out these delicious desserts we found that would be perfect for your soiree! The Strawberry Tart looks divine, plus it's got fruit - delicious and healthy(ish)! Have plenty of Valentine candy favorites in bowls around for your guests. Freeze strawberries and raspberries to toss into sparkling lemonade for a pretty drink.

You'll surely see Valentine decorations everywhere you look for the next few weeks, so grab some pretty crepe paper streamers and heart themed decorations. Make a heart garland from cardstock and yarn to string up along with the crepe streamers - the more you add criss-crossing the room, the more festive the feel! Create a simple table cloth out of white butcher paper decorated with a bunch of hearts drawn on with red and pink crayons by your little lovebird. Red flowers in clear, vintage bottles scattered here and there will add a lovely finishing touch for the Valentine feel in a not-so-romantic way.

Lastly, our Valentine's placemats are perfect place-settings for your party-going sweethearts and all throughout the Valentine season for your own sprouts at mealtime. Young ladies would love one of our sweet heart necklaces as a party favor, while our heart themed wall art will remind you of Valentine's Day all throughout the year and keep that love in the air.

  • Use Art Repetition to Create Drama

One way to make a major statement on the walls of your kids' bedrooms and playrooms is to multiply your Oopsy daisy fine art collection. We don't mean to ask you to do any difficult math, only find your chosen artwork and throw the coordinating cousins in the cart, too! See, we offer many pieces of artwork by certain artists in similar colorways or themes intended to coordinate. With this as an option, we encourage you to use art repetition to create drama on the walls.

While we're always suggesting to mix and match wall art, even with different artists, and with and without frames, we also have a great collection of coordinating artwork that will make a powerful presentation when displayed as a repetitive compilation. We love the License Plate Peace Signs by Aaron Foster arranged in a row, creating a horizontal border on your wall and maximizing the art to wall space ratio, this is a fantastic example that would work for boy or girl, up into the tweens and teens! Notice how we've selected most of the peace signs in the same size, save one that is the largest option; and all in different, yet coordinating, colorways.

Another set of coordinating stretched canvas pieces that happen to be very popular with our young sports buffs are the Sports Lockers by Jones Segarra. Jones has represented popular sports in coordinating color palettes, and in the same 12x36 size. No need to choose a favorite, line them all up for a sports enthusiast gallery perfect for girl or boy.

Check out artist collections from Aaron Christensen, Alice Feagan, Annette Tatum, and Eric Carle for great selections of pieces that coordinate eclectically or traditionally in corresponding sizes - perfect for grouping repetitively. But, this is just the tip of the iceberg, of course. We've got loads of amazing works by spectacular artists in any style you're looking for. Start with themes if you already have a motif, or search by artist or colorway for tons of different options. And, don't forget, call us if you need us! We're always here to help.

  • Playrooms that Educate

GreenBox Art + Culture's passion is providing fine art for everyone. Oopsy daisy has been doing that for years, and we've amassed quite a collection of incredible artwork from amazingly talented artists from around the world. We've got artwork for nearly any theme you can think of, and then some. Our educational artwork is arguably our most popular theme to date. In fact, nearly every time we add new art to the collection, you'll find some new educational pieces in that mix. We think there's always a place for artwork that educates (a child's study space for one!), and none more fitting than a child's playroom. Playrooms that educate encourage the best kind of learning - the fun kind!

Maps are a great place to start when looking for educational wall art for children, and boy have we got them! We have map themed canvas wall art, placemats, fabric wall decals, and mural banners. Another very popular educational theme is our wall decor for kids featuring the alphabet and numbers - and this theme is always growing! On top of all that, we've got themes focusing on global, science, dinosaurstravel, bugs & butterflies, music, nursery rhymes, animals, farms, and the world! The fact is, all art is educational in one way or another, but we've got your needs covered with specific education themes for children's playrooms.

And don't forget that we've got the perfect wall art for your playroom in the perfect size, too! From huge murals that stick, to our smallest sizes of canvas wall art perfect for grouping, find artwork for all playrooms that educate that fit any budget.

  • Carolyn Gavin Interview

We recently sat down with Carolyn, who is always “On the Go”, so we could get to the heart of her creative flow. Despite living in a house built in the 1800’s, this Oopsy daisy artist paints everything from modern and cute little animals to friendly invading aliens! We asked Carolyn to describe who, what, when, where and why and this is what she had to say:

GreenBox: Can you describe the time when you first realized that creating was something you absolutely had to do?

Carolyn Gavin: When I was really young I loved painting and creating and then at the age of about 7 or 8 I watched my aunt doing her fashion illustrations for the newspaper and was completely entranced. I knew then that graphic design was the way to go for me. I've since branched out into illustration and other mediums.

GB: How would you describe your style?

CG: Fun, whymsical, colorful, organic, happy with a touch of surprise.

GB: What kind of creative patterns, routines or rituals do you have?

CG: I generally sketch and draw patterns and ideas out first. I then scan them and recreate them using Illustrator. I also paint with gouache, acrylic and watercolor and draw with black ink. Whatever it takes to get the message across.

GB: What message or feeling are you trying to communicate with your art?

CG: A positive, healthy, joyful and happy message.

GB: What jobs have you done other than being an artist?

CG: I worked in a fashion boutique, as a waitress for years and then an au pair in the UK.

GB: What artists do you look up to?

CG: ARTISTS I LOVE Jeffrey Harrison. Illustrators I love are Nate Williams and Helen Dardik.

GB: Which creative medium would you love to pursue but haven’t yet?

CG: mmm I've tried lots of media... I guess I would love to focus on one and that would be painting.

GB: What food, drink, song inspires you?

CG: LOVE tea and chocolate. LOVE anything by Amy Winehouse.

GB: What superpower would you have and why?

CG: I'd LOVE to have wings and be able to fly as I actually am terrified of flying, this way I could have total control if I fell out of the sky of something...

GB: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

CG: FOCUS and PRACTICE. The more you work on something, the better you get at it, and you never stop learning.

GB: Lastly, any words of advice for aspiring designers/artists?

CG: Never, never, never give up!
